Hello, friends 🌿

This year, I have the beautiful joy of homeschooling my Kindergartener. Every day is a new invitation to slow down, notice, explore, and delight in the world together. At this age, learning still feels like magic—it’s curiosity-driven, full of giggles and ā€œwhat ifs,ā€ and rooted in the rhythms of our home.

When choosing our curriculum, I wanted tools that would nurture wonder, build a strong foundation, and support his love for storytelling, movement, and discovery. Here’s a look at what we’re using this year—and how it’s shaping our days with joy and purpose.

šŸ“– Literature & Life Lessons: Five in a Row (Volume One)

One of the most cherished parts of our week is our time with Five in a Row. Each story we read becomes a doorway into meaningful conversations and hands-on adventures. We’ve explored themes like kindness, courage, and belonging—while also weaving in history, vocabulary, geography, and science.

Whether we’re painting artwork inspired by the story, mapping the journey of a character, or experimenting with a new concept from the book, these moments feel like heart-work and head-work all at once. My son lights up with each new book, and I treasure the connection this curriculum fosters between us.

āž• Math Magic: Singapore Dimensions, Synthesis Tutor & Khan Academy Kids

Our math journey this year has been a joyful blend of structure and play.

We’re using Singapore Dimensions Math 1, which gently walks us through core concepts using a visual, step-by-step approach that makes math feel real and connected. My son thrives with the logical flow and visual nature of the lessons—it’s been beautiful to see his confidence grow.

To keep things fresh and flexible, we also use Synthesis Tutor for problem-solving challenges and Khan Academy Kids for interactive, game-like lessons. On days when we need something light and independent, ABC Mouse is our go-to for review with a playful twist.

āœļø Language Arts Foundations: The Good and the Beautiful

For early reading, writing, and handwriting, we’ve been using The Good and the Beautiful Kindergarten Course Set—and it’s been such a sweet experience.

The lessons are thoughtfully structured yet creatively engaging, weaving phonics, grammar, and art into one seamless flow. My son especially loves the themed sets (Sparks and Stars and Field and Flowers), which bring a sense of adventure into literacy. Watching him write letters and sound out words with growing confidence has been one of the highlights of our homeschool year.

🌿 Nature & Discovery: Beautiful Feet Books’ Seasons Afield Nature Study

So much of our learning happens outdoors, and this nature study curriculum has been a perfect fit.

We’ve wandered through changing seasons, identified birds and bugs, collected leaves, and simply paid attention to the world around us. These lessons turn science into a sensory experience—and they’ve sparked such meaningful conversations about creation, wonder, and care for the natural world.

šŸ—ŗļø Early American History & Geography: Beautiful Feet Books K–3

Though we’re still early in our homeschooling journey, we’ve gently introduced history and geography through stories and maps using Beautiful Feet Books’ Early American History K–3 and US Geography K–3.

The story-based format keeps my son engaged as we learn about important places and people. He especially enjoys using the maps to track where we’ve ā€œbeenā€ā€”it feels like we’re going on mini road trips through time!

šŸŽØ Creative Expression & STEM: Glitterbombers + MEL Science

Two areas that light up my son’s world? Art and science. These two programs have brought so much joy to our home:

  • Glitterbombers by Soul Sparklettes Art: Every project is a beautiful, glitter-filled exploration of creativity. There’s structure, but also so much freedom. He’s building skills while expressing his imagination—and I love watching that unfold.
  • MEL Science STEM Boxes: Each month, we receive a new hands-on kit filled with science experiments and projects. Whether we’re building simple machines or learning about reactions, every box feels like opening a present full of curiosity and learning.

šŸ’› Why We Chose This Path

Each of these resources was chosen with care—to meet my Kindergartener where he is, honor his natural curiosity, and gently build the foundations for a love of learning that will grow with him.

Our goal this year isn’t to rush or perform, but to create a nurturing space where wonder is welcome, questions are celebrated, and learning feels like a joyful part of our everyday life.

If you’re homeschooling older children too, be sure to peek at my post on what we’re using with my 10-year-old this year. Each season of homeschooling brings its own beauty and challenges—and I’m so grateful to walk it alongside you.

With heart,
Patricia
